Clarification of railway gravel washing water

water treatment of a rail track treatment plant - System Knape GSG -

practical conditions:

The plant is designed to improve the track bed. The whole plant is installed on a train. The track is lifted, the gravel is removed, treated in the plant and finally fitted again under the track.

One part of the process is the washing of the gravel. The gravel is contaminated with fine gravel powder, dust, soil and other waste particles. To use the water in a circuit all contamination has to be removed. The clarification of the washing water is the part which added by Leiblein company.

function specification:

The contaminated washing water is pumped to a Leiblein lamella separator. Before entering the separator flocculant is dosed into the waste water flow. The flocculants 'pulls' the fine particle together like a magnet and effects a bigger particle (floc) which is able to settle down better and faster than fine particles.

In the Leiblein lamella separator the waste water flows parallel the lamellas up. Flocs and waste particle settle down onto the lamella plates and slide down into the sludge chamber.

The sludge is conveyed out of the separator by a scraper into a buffer tank and finally pumped to a disposal wagon. The clear water flows to a buffer tank to use it again as washing water.

The whole plant is built on a railway train. Therefore a special design has to be developed. Because of the high experience of Leiblein company in design and construction of special plants the project could be performed successful.
