Sand washing water treatment

Practical conditions:

A gravel works (comapany Müller Adam u. Klüber Nachfolger KG, D - 36124 Eichenzell) in the Rhön, an area without native sand deposits, produces breaking sand from sandstone.

To carry out the increasing quality demands a sand washing plant with bucket wheel was built.

The washing water is driven in a cycle. The purification is made by a Leiblein lamella separator.

function specification:

The polluted washing water is collected in a buffer basin. The water is polluted with fine mineral particles and fine sand fragments.

A special rotary pump for abrasive fluids pumps the water into the lamella separator. Before entering the separator a flocculant is dosed. The flocculant 'pulls' the fine particles together like a magnet and effects a bigger particle (floc) which is able to settle down better and faster than fine particles. The particles settle down onto the lamella plates and slide into the sludge funnel. The sludge is pumped off into a sludge basin for more dewatering.

The purified washing water from the lamella separator is collected in a clearwater tank. Here it is buffered for using in the washing plant. The water loss (sludge and sand) is replaced by a swimmer valve.
